inThis is the weekend in which the CDSM shoring wall was brought partially across Fremont Street. I had a very nice chat with a female S.F.P.D. officer who was on 10b duty there.
After the majority of the CDSM wall is completed, the rigs (drilling and cranes) will be demobilized for the winter, and will return next spring to complete the job crossing First, Fremont, and Beale Streets when the temporary traffic bridges are installed.

inThe landscaping done at the large office building on Market Street right by the POPOS area in front of 1 Ecker is always so beautiful. I wish I could live at 1 Ecker and watch as the building management rotates the various plantings here with the seasons.
For summer and fall of 2011, this is what they were using:

inAfter the Maevo Building and the Gruen, Greun+Associates Buildings came down (preceded by the Steel Arc, Zebulon, and Varnish Buildings), this area between Natoma and Howard Streets was prepared for the archaeological dig. They indeed did find some “privies” in the area that would have been the “backyards” of old residences on these streets, and many artifacts were found. So interesting ! More about this later.

inSpeciality’s just opened a new store at 500 Howard Street in one of the Foundry Square buildings. Everyone there is so friendly and helpful !
After a visit to the site, I stopped off for a coffee and cookie, and discovered that they have been open for about 1 month now (at this location). There were some guys there working on programming their menu boards to include some interesting display effects, which was very interesting. But the best thing about their decor is the fact that they both included old photographs of the Transbay Terminal and surrounding area, as well as a brick wall on one side of the shop, to evoke the look and feel of this old working class neighborhood and its many masonry buildings.
Definitely a great place to rest our feet, chat, and compare notes during site club meetings. Not to mention that ALL of their food and drinks are excellent !

inI will need someone’s help to understand what they were often doing with this smaller drilling rig. I saw it many times on the streets surrounding the site, and its crew seemed to be drilling within either existing or new, small manholes. I could be very wrong, but it seemed to have (at least sometimes) something to do with the “Geo Instruments” that were placed around the site to monitor ground movement. Yup, those instruments that seem to be a bit problematic — or at least a few of them are, particularly the one on Minna Street by the POPOS (555 Mission) area.
