inThe last of the three temporary traffic bridges — this final one is on Beale Street — was installed this weekend. I was lucky enough to be able to watch all 3 of these bridges as they were flown into place — First Street and Fremont Street last summer, and now this final one. As usual, a great job by TJPA’s construction team.

inThe construction of the trestle bridge is coming along. It looks like many old wooden piles were pulled up from down the center of the west lot during the work on the trestle.
Also, I was surprised to see the Malcolm triple-auger drilling rig and crane still at work today. That fellow that has put in 80% or so of all 860 soldier piles told me last Friday that they would be working straight through last weekend to finish the final few pieces of the CDSM wall. But they were out there again today, working on the part that crosses Fremont Street. So perhaps this weekend will the grand finale of the CDSM shoring wall work.

inThis obstacle was uncovered down in the corner right outside Anchor & Hope. I wonder what was on this lot before ? I asked Mr. James Patrick, who I often see in the neighborhood and sometimes at TJPA meetings, but he does not know the history of this lot prior to its years as a street-level parking lot.
They use one of their excavation machines with a special attachment to smooth out the shoring wall. Very smooth !
Smoothing out the tops of the i-beams as well.
I believe these beams are going to be part of the trestle bridge that will be support the trucks and equipment as the excavation goes deeper.
Some of the interesting stuff found in the excavation. I know it is stupid, but I love to see what is found in the pit !
This is what is between the old terminal wall and the newly excavated shoring wall. I wonder what this conduit was used for.
This is the far corner of the site by the gate on Howard Street, close to the Dahl-Beck Building. The curved shape represents where the train tunnel will enter the terminal site.
Don’t know what they reflector-like things are for — I think perhaps they are used to focus or measure with the surveyor’s tripod pointed at them ?

Now that excavation has begun in earnest at the west end of the project, the remaining underground portion of the old old terminal is re-emerging.
There are quite a few obstacles remaining to be demolished in the coming months. I understand that Evans Brothers are back again to do this work.
I believe these are the basement walls of the west end of the terminal. I took this photo from Minna Street, close to the intersection of Shaw Alley.

inThis is the weekend in which the CDSM shoring wall was brought partially across Fremont Street. I had a very nice chat with a female S.F.P.D. officer who was on 10b duty there.
After the majority of the CDSM wall is completed, the rigs (drilling and cranes) will be demobilized for the winter, and will return next spring to complete the job crossing First, Fremont, and Beale Streets when the temporary traffic bridges are installed.
