inSpeaking of how picky I am about the look of the exterior cladding, I hope that the Giampolini guys (or Plant Construction guys) are going to go back on the north side of the building and remove this ugly piece of pipe — it looks like an elbow fitting — not to mention this whole section of pipe — perhaps it is some kind of vent, but surely it is no longer needed. It certainly has “gotta go”.

inI talked with Randy DeLapp of Plant Construction today, and he told me that the scaffolding high up on the front side of the building is to be used in the refurbishment of the cladding.
The current way this work is being done — from those window-washer-style scaffolds that lower from connections on the roof — cannot be used here because with the demolition of that roof penthouse (the ‘sort of’ 27th floor), the attaching points may not be strong enough. The scaffolding sits on a parapet where the first building set-back occurs — this is the 23rd floor.
Just today, the workers set up these tarps so that work can proceed in the wind and cold over the next few months.

inThe Giampolini people are now working on the cladding at the southeast corner of the building. Here are a few views of the repairs/painting.
Perhaps because this is the only part of the construction work that I think I could actually do, I am quite picky about it ! I keep hoping that they will smooth out those spots where they have had to fill in divots or other damaged spots, and I also keep seeing individual bricks that I think they missed as far as re-painting. Perhaps I am too critical about this !
I hope they are either removing or covering up that molly bolt and smoothing out that patched square spot.

inI was a bit amazed today to see the company that will be replacing the windows show up.
For some reason, I figured windows were one of the last things to go in during a refurbishment project like this.
But as one of the guys mentioned, as sheetrock is installed, it cannot be allowed to get wet or it else mold can develop. As such, window installation will begin immediately !
Although no windows arrived today, several tool boxes belonging to Bagatelos Architectural Glass Systems, Inc. were delivered to the site.
I also noticed that all that most all of the windows on the 4th floor (the first floor that Yelp will occupy) have been removed. Perhaps this is where the first new windows will go ?
